Okay, some new things:

-more mascots and pets than just the bat and owl.

-Rose clearly starting to suffer under her 'good student' reputation. And that's an important distinction, btw: she's a 'good' student, no one ever said she was a smart student, just a well-behaved one. A smart student would get to do some fun things with the extra magic they're learning.

-Miss Asha is named on-screen.

-Everyone ships Rose and Cedric except for Rose and Cedric. They seem to enjoy just being friends.

-How do you make a scientifically minded Filly like Cedric make sense in a magic academy? Make him a hacker, apparently, one who adds features to his mirror. Did not see that one coming, glad they added it, and I hope they don't go the overblown 'technomancer' trope they tried on UBOS. Ugh. A slight glance at the Izzet from Magic: the Gathering will suffice, and if all else fails: Swiss technology. I cannot wait to see Cedric save the day with a Swiss Army Mirror.

-We get some modicum of reason why Battiwigs sticks around Wranglum: he wants to stick it to the Fillies, be in charge of them for a change. Not sure what to think about that. Will and Cedric don't abuse him or anything, I don't think. Certainly no worse than Wranglum does.

And, lastly, the show gives us a very nice moment between Rose and Bijou. Having had guinea pigs around the house, as well as having been around chickens and other animals, this scene just... clicked. Panicked animals will flee from you as you are trying to help them. You have to know how to handle them if you want to care for them. Good lesson, and universal enough to work on a broad range of ages. Petting zoo residents all over the world will be grateful for this episode, I'm sure.

I think Battiwigs in general has a bad personality, so he actually gets along with the wizard's plans without feeling conflicted. It doesn't seem like Wranglum scares him into working and he laughs along with them when discussing world domination. I agree that he probably wants power but I don't think he does it out of being bullied by the Fillies and wanting revenge.

I was positively surprised to see that he is written like this, I was expecting him to be a smple henchman who doesn't think for himself and not such an active character (remember how he trapped Zack and Rose in ep. 2? Kind of cool. Where is Zack by the way lol)
I think episode 3 give us enought reason why they work together. They maybe argue a lot, and Wranglum can call him names, but at the end of the day they are friends and they care for each other. It's quite unique relationship between Vilain and his sidekick.
I think episode 3 give us enought reason why they work together. They maybe argue a lot, and Wranglum can call him names, and Batti often just leave him because he want some alone time. But at the end of the day they are friends and they care for each other. It's quite unique relationship between Vilain and his sidekick. and the fact they establish it so quickly is also very interesting. They wanted us to know they almost equal even if one is a lord and the other is a servant.

Also, Batti is apparently boys dormitory mascot, and Bijou is a mascot of girls one. I don't think fillies realise that Batti can talks or is fully sentient, since Bijou seems to act like normal owl and he always stops talking whenever there's fillies around even when he does not mention his evil deeds. He could easily say that he don't want to dress like an owl, or that this is his gem, and Bijou take it without permission. They woudn't take it from him in a first place, since that would be stealing and they didn't know it was dengerous gem.
sorry I make a mistake in that comment, and I can't change it as a guest. :P
I agree some nice Rose and Bijou moments

One more thing: we learn that Unicorn Filly horns are attached to the skin, not to the skull. You're welcome.

That's a little creepy and hopefully was just an artistic choice rather than a lore choice.
